From the CEO
In March 2023, The Magnolia Company has started its 17th year. Harajuku station where our company is located was renewed and the area where we opened our office 16 years ago has completely changed.
The year 2020 was a year of upheaval with a global pandemic unlike anything ever experienced.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 2022 continues, and the war has been prolonged. Because of these issues we now face, there is no doubt that significant change is on the horizon.
Under these circumstances, and with the diverse changes in media, we intend to continue in our earnest approach to video production with respect for the perspectives and values of all human beings. We hope that as we focus on enriching viewers’ lives through the power of words and images,
we will also be able to contribute to society.
In 1890, a man from Great Britain came to Matsue in Shimane Prefecture. Everything he saw was unfamiliar and surprising.
His name, Lafcadio Hearn. Becoming a Japanese national, he later changed his name to Koizumi Yakumo. His work, “Glimpses of Unfamiliar Japan”, was written about his experiences through his own unique perspective, and still offers much we can learn from in the present day.
The Japan of the past had big dreams for the future, but as the gap between rich and poor continues to widen, many young people see no such bright future ahead. And so, in this era of lost hope, we feel a deep need for a reexamination of the past, a rekindling of cultural awareness. Our mission is to spread the appeal of this still unfamiliar Japan far and wide, both here and overseas.
