The Rock-n-roll Art of Ki-yan
The Rock-n-roll Art of Ki-yan (Hideki Kimura)
Going by the stage name, Ki-yan, Hideki Kimura creates murals on a massive scale, both in size and in impact. Starting out as a gifted artist,
after exposure to the pop art of the 60s he felt awed and temporarily left the world of painting for the world of rock and roll.
Organizing major concerts and eventually becoming one of the biggest event producers in Japan. Then, approaching his 60s, he once again picked up his brushes and paints. Setting out to not define himself by the art of others as he had once done, but to go his own way. He describes his own style as “straight, simple and easy”, but a stylistic blending of traditional Japanese imagery and rock-inspired pop art have made him hugely popular in his home country.
Whether on exterior or interior walls, or even on massive folding screens his art is for public display, not gathering dust in some museum.
Adding impact and Japanese esthetic flair, his rock-n-roll art never fails to make an impression.
